Box Office to reopen on October 15 with 50% seating among the protocols laid by the Govt of India. Due to Lockdown the activity of all respective sectors has been affected and one of them is the film industry. As the summer season is considered one of the best seasons for film releases, there were more than a dozen big budget Telugu films scheduled to be released in the months of April, May and June.
Ponmagal Vandhal is the first Tamil big movie to have a direct release on Prime Video and become a Blockbuster hit. Moreover, the film has given a kind of inspiration to medium budget and small movies. Similarly, Bollywood films of many big stars; Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi, Laxmmi Bomb, Bhuj: The Pride Of India, etc. have scheduled for direct digital release.
In April, many rumors circulated about the release of the big South films like Master, Red, Uppena, Jagame Tantram, etc would be directly released on the OTT platform. Many film producers have no other way but to postpone their release date. However, some movies like Nishabdham and V opted for OTT direct release.
